Teaching Philosophy

Megan Fritz, PhD.

I believe that children deserve meaningful learning experiences that provide them with opportunities to excel.

The development of a classroom community is an important step in creating a student-centered classroom. Students will take ownership in their role as a member of our classroom community. Positive reinforcement will be used to encourage student engagement.

It is my goal to create a classroom community where students feel safe and willing to take risks with their thinking and learning. Students will have access to information so that they can learn how to construct knowledge through inquiry, problem solving, reflection, collaboration, and many other high level skills.

I will use diverse teaching strategies so that all students can reach their highest potential. Differentiated Instruction will be used to meet the needs of learners in all disciplines. Reading, writing, and math workshops will provide students with the opportunity to engage in authentic learning through collaboration, sharing, reflection, and discussion. Assessment will be ongoing and both formal and informal methods will be used as evidence to support decision-making and drive instruction.

In addition, my passion for effective use of technology in the classroom will remain at the forefront of my teaching. I will ensure that both my students and I meet the National Educational Technology Standards and use technology as a tool support meaningful learning and knowledge construction.

I feel strongly that parents are also a very important part of the learning process. I will create a supportive learning environment with open lines of communication between students, teachers, and parents. Regular feedback with parents is important to ensuring their child is performing at a high level.

It is my responsibility as an educator to continually develop my skills professionally. I will continue to research current educational practices by collaborating with peers, attending conferences and professional development sessions, and collaborating with educational leaders through different media.
